3 Indeed, it appears that income inequality and wealth inequality have both increased between 2009 and 2015. Real income in the upper 1 percent increased by 15 percent in those years, or by about $89,000 per person. Real income in the bottom 90 percent increased by 0.6 percent in those years, or by about $220 per person. The average real income in the bottom 90 percent is only about $33,000 per person, which is a third of the increase achieved by the top 1 percent. Income inequality has many causes, most of which are related to economics, technology, and social organization. Recent economic data suggest improving incomes among the poor and middle class. It will take years to sort out the actual impact of Obamacare on income inequality and on health.
